Dentist visit! Portable air purifier recommendations

Hi Ethan,

I’ve a dentist visit due next week. I haven’t been in years, & feel very anxious about it. They say they can wear Ffp2s for me, but they don’t use Hepa filters.
I have a small Munchkin air purifier that I use with my mask when I travel, but I’m thinking I need something better for this.
Have considered asking if I can turn up early & plug in my large floor Levoit, but really I think portable is the best option maybe.
I’m stuck going back & forth between SmartAir QT3, or Airfanta 4 Lite.
Can’t see an Air Fanta 4 Lite review on the site.

Can you help with any recommendations and thoughts?

Thanks for all your work,

from Ireland,

Claire.

Hi @Claireissimo, thanks for joining and I can understand your concern!

This is a fantastic start and perhaps the best single measure that can be taken. A lot of people aren’t even open to this, so it’s great to hear they are willing to mask.

I have not had the chance to try the 4 Lite yet, but I think it’s probably the best choice in this situation. The QT3 needs to be very close to really make a difference (you can see the full results in my review), and I don’t think it would be ideal for a situation like this.

While I haven’t tried the 4 Lite yet, I have heard that it’s more powerful, and I believe that will make a bigger difference here. They only act as one layer of protection, but with the dentist and assistants wearing masks, this will be a good added extra layer.

If you are very concerned, you could also try using something like the RediMask on your nose (and only breathe through your nose). This video is a great one on the topic:

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions I can help with.

Hi Ethan,

Thanks so much!
I watched Gerard Hughes’ video on the 4lite after, & felt a bit anxious about it. Looks like I’d have to be very specific with it.

Would something like a levoit core mini resting on the legs & pointing towards me be any good/better than the Airfanta do you think?

It’s great that the staff will mask for me, but I’m a bit anxious about the air quality in the room itself by the time my afternoon slot rolls round!

Hugely appreciate your help, & all your work, Ethan!

Thanks again,

Claire.

Hi @Claireissimo,

You’re welcome!

Yes, even with the 4Lite you need to very particular about placement and distance will greatly reduce the filtration capabilities of the device. However, it still performs a bit better than the QT3.

The Core Mini is reportedly quite weak, and I feel that the 4Lite might be a better choice, as you can face it directly towards yourself. With that said, any of these devices would need to be as close to your face as possible to have the most significant impact. However, it really comes down to whether there will be a table or surface near your head where you can place the device.

Ethan, thank you!

Along with my trusty Alpha Solway HX-3 small, which seems to give the best seal for my face, I have been using a small Munchkin very close to my face/under my chin when I travel. Don’t know that it would do the job at the dentists though. Maybe it’s still better than no purifier at all.

Thanks for Gerard’s Readimask video. I could try it, but don’t know how I’d get in when I need to speak really!

Truly appreciated.

Stay well!

Claire.
