Many of us who are interested in carbon dioxide monitors await the day that the sensors can be shrunk enough to fit into a smartphone or smartwatch. While this technology is perhaps still many years away, we’ve seen some fantastic improvements in carbon dioxide sensor technology over the past few years that have allowed some ultra-small monitors to enter the market. While still a far cry from being able to fit into a smartphone (and realistically, this is still a relatively niche function that will probably never be added), sensors like the Sensirion SCD4x series have drastically decreased the size…
AirSpot firmware version 1.3.0 on my device, new 26 January 2025, ‘forgets’ it’s set ‘reading rate’ and defaults to having to press the button to get a reading. It would be good to be reassured that whether locally powered or running on its battery the reading rate stays at its set position.
Hi - Rob here from AirSpot. Firstly thank you Ethan for a fantastic, fair and very comprehensive review. Thank you Showsley for purchasing from AirSpot. The latest software pending release we hope within the next few days overcomes the issue yo are having. I’d be very happy to grant you access to this test software (save you waiting - some great new features - I can’t wait for the public to get it) - please feel free to email me at [email protected] - that goes for anyone else too in the forum who is keen to get the pre-release software update. Thank you everyone for the amazing work you’re doing in this space. Rob
Thank you for replying @RobertHackett. I hope this helps, @Showsley!
I need to double-check as I wasn’t paying too close attention, but I didn’t notice this issue in my testing, so I believe it was indeed addressed in the beta/upcoming update.
Hi @RobertHackett,
I hope you are doing well! I see that 3.3.0 got officially released on the App Store about three weeks ago. I believe I beta tested 3.2.3 in my review. Does this mean that all features discussed in the review (and here) are now publicly available and that user experience should be the same as I had?
Thank you!
I’ve been using the new beta AirSpot app for the past couple of weeks and I must say that I’m impressed by the improvements to the app features and the new additions. It’s so cool to see such active support of the device (both in regard to the hardware and software).
Above are a couple of screenshots of the new app features and you can see that with the beta (which will be released to all users in the future), you can now see the current CO2 concentration via a live activity notification. This is a very cool feature, and I’ve found that it makes me so much more conscious of the carbon dioxide concentration at any given time. It also means that I rarely need to use the device itself, which, to me, is a big advantage. Ideally, I want air quality monitoring to be seamlessly integrated into my daily life and the devices that I already use and this is a great step in that direction.
There are definitely still some improvements to be made (I would like to see the live activity notification updated so the graph is centered and has a border around the bottom - it would also be great to have a Home Screen widget with the same look), but I am very excited to see these features getting added.
Thanks Ethan! We have centered the graph in the next Beta version 3.5.20 which will be shared with Beta testers soon. We are also looking into the Home Screen Widget for iOS too (which is available on Android).
Hi, Ethan, I just found you on twiX, and this is an interesting monitor to use, with a definite commitment to ongoing improvements on the part of the AirSpot crew.
Hubs purchased several Aranet4 monitors and gave all of those but one away, so he ended up buying a case of them to continue to have them to give away. It isn’t really a “pocket monitor,” and there have been times I’ve wished it were.
I like the size and portability of the AirSpot, and it would be great to have on a lanyard when I go out and about. We’re always masking in shared air away from home, but it would be great to have an idea about the air exchanges in the places I go.
I’m throwing my hat into the giveaway, but I’m definitely going to consider purchasing one.
Thank you!
