AirFanta G2 Air Quality Monitor Preview

I’ve been really busy recently and keep getting delayed, but I am consistently using this device, and I’ve had it with me for almost six months. While I work on my full review, I have a few more thoughts on the AirFanta G2!

Firstly, I’ve noticed what appears to be a bit of an issue with this device. Quite consistently, although less so at lower temperatures, the AirFanta G2 appears to record both higher temperatures and significantly higher RH than other devices, such as my Traceable monitor and the Aranet4 Home.

The image below shows one such example where the Aranet reads 24.5, the Traceable Hygrometer 24.9 and the AirGanta 26 degrees Celsius. During this photo, the device was charging, which seems to have a bit of an impact on these readings, but I’ve also noticed this when the device is unplugged.

Unfortunately, this also seems to be an issue with RH. In the image below, the Aranet4 Home reads 64%, the Traceable 61% and the G2 74%. This is a massive difference, and I wouldn’t rely too heavily on the AirFanta G2 for these two readings.

With that said, I have continued to see it perform quite well concerning CO2 and PM2.5, which, I would argue, are more important anyway. While I can’t make any comparison graphs due to the lack of a data export function, I’ve found that the AirFanta G2 almost always reads within a few parts per million of my Aranet. I’m quite impressed with these results, and I think the CO2 sensor is performant even without the need for manual calibration (as long as it’s exposed to ambient air relatively frequently).

PM2.5 is a similar story, and the G2 tends to read quite similarly to my AirGradient ONE. I regularly check these devices as they both sit on my desk with me, and the readings are generally within 25% of each other (I use the ONE with the EPA algorithm enabled).

I wish this device’s battery life was longer, as I still feel that it’s stuck in an odd place where it could be a great portable monitor, but with short battery life, it has one major flaw. I wonder if this could be fixed with a software update.
